August 13,1961: The Berlin Wall was built by the government of East Berlin of 1961. After World War II, Germany ended up dividing into two separate countries. People in East Germany began to realize that they didn't want to live under the rule of the Soviet Union they began fleeing to West Germany. The Wall was built in order to prevent people from fleeing from East Berlin.

July 9, 1962: Andy Warhol exhibits his Campbell's Soup Can. At the time the Campbell's had only 32 soup flavors and Andy Warhol was able to paint each and every single one of them. Each canvas stood for a different flavor. At the MoMA Museum they have displayed his Campbell's Paintings in chronological order from which flavor had come out first.

1962: The first James Bond movie is made. The first movie is called Dr. No. This film is about James Bond who is sent to Jamaica to investigate the disappearance of a fellow British spy. "Dr. No" was produced on a low budget and was a financial success for the producers. This movie was the first out of 23 movies to be made, while being the first successful James Bond movie.

June 16,1963: The first woman to have flown in space. This woman's name is Valentina Tereshkova. After the flight of Yuri Gagarin in 1961, Sergey Korolyov came up with the idea of putting woman in space. Valentina was a worthy candidate because she had met all of the requirements of going into space and her father died a war hero.

1964: The Civil rights act passes. The Civil rights act of 1964 had ended many things such as segregation in public places, and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, gender, color, religion and more. This idea was first proposed by President John F. Kennedy. Even though many had opposed of his idea, it was signed into law by Lyndon B. Johnson.

February 21, 1965: Malcolm X was assassinated.
Malcolm X was an African American leader and important figure in the Nation of Islam. He spoke out and was a true leader and role model to many people. Unfortunately, not everyone was a big fan of him. Because of his saying and speeches he gained a lot of hatred and was killed by Talmadge Hayer. |
