June 30, 1966: NOW (National Organization for Women) founded. NOW was founded by 28 women members who became founders at the Third National Conference in Commissions. NOW strives to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Over the years, NOW has been successful in the process of key issues in the woman's movement.

December 3, 1967: On December 3, 1967, the first heart transplant was given to 53 year old- Lewis Washkansky in Cape Town, South Africa. Lewis was dying from chronic heart disease and received the transplant from Denise Darvall. American surgeon, Norman Shumway achieved the first successful heart transplant while operating on a dog.

April 4, 1968: Martin Luther King Jr. gets assassinated. In early April, the whole nation was shocked to find out that the U.S Civil Rights Leader, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, Texas. King was shot while standing in his hotel room on the balcony. James Earl Ray a fugitive that had escaped from the Missouri prison in 1967.

June 6, 1968: Robert F. Kennedy gets assassinated. After winning the California and South Dakota primary elections, Kennedy was shot as he walked through the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel and died 26 hours later. Sirhan Sirhan was convicted of the murder on Robert F. Kennedy. Sirhans lawyers keep repeating that he was framed and he is now serving a life sentence
in prison. |
July 20, 1969: Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. Armstrong flew the moon with fellow astronaut Buzz Aldrin. Apollo 11 touched down on the lunar surface on July 20, 1969. That was more than eight years after than President John F. Kennedy gave his historic speech in which he said " Before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the earth.

April 10, 1970: The Beatles Break up. The Beatles are a famous rock band and have been very influential and popular among many people. After the band had stopped touring each band member began diverging into different directions because their music taste had now changed and that had dreadfully affected the bands collaboration with each other.
